LUCCA

Lucca truly lends itself to a bike tour. We don’t always expect a lesser-known city such as Lucca to be so charming. An authoritative newspaper such as the New York Times recommends Lucca over crowded cities such as Florence or Pisa to fully-experience the local lifestyle and ancient atmospheres. Its medieval and baroque architecture has been perfectly preserved, enclosed within the massive walls that the people of Lucca are so proud of. We will visit together the native town of Giacomo Puccini by cycling atop the shady walls, which is such a great experience, while enjoying many panoramic views, and through the town itself: the Roman amphiteather, the Guinigi tower, piazza San Michele, the Basilica of San Frediano, the cathedral and the gardens of Palazzo Pfanner.

We can delight in another foody experience by tasting the local specialities of Lucca in a wine cellar: excellent extra-virgin olive oil, wine, truffles, cold cuts and more. FREE!

  • The tour can be 100 % by bike or 50% by bike and 50% on foot.
  • The price to rent 1 bike per hour is: 4 euro per person.
  • There are also tandems, and bikes with children’s
  • Anyone minimally physically fit can take part in this tour.

PISA

Pisa by bike offers you the opportunity to enjoy the city’s charming riversides and the less frequented districts, more authentic than the square of the cathedral, of course unmissable but too crowded with visitors.

After an explanation of the cathedral square, we will take our bikes or our small 4-seat car, to go towards Piazza dei Cavalieri (the knights’ square), seat of the most prestigious school of Italy. We will cross the medieval district where a daily food market takes place, and we will cycle along the River Arno – a  natural amphitheatre which offers us splendid views over the Renaissance palaces and the delightful church of Santa Maria della Spina (Our Lady of the Thorne), a true Gothic jewel. We will stop in front of a fresco by Keith Haring, a famous street artist, and we will go back to our departure point through the pedestrian main street to admire the Art Nouveau architecture.

A stop in one of the best ice cream shop is a must… Offered by me!

FLORENCE

Florence is a big city and exploring it by bike, especially in summer, will keep the younger ones interested and not tire the less physically fit. The city is flat and the historical centre is closed to the non resident cars, but it’s not pedestrian. There will be many stops at historical sites, ranging from the classical to the lesser-know yet highly-interesting ones: the cathedral square or Duomo; the Signoria Square – ancient political centre of Florence; the district of Santa Maria Novella, home to a unique and ancient pharmacy; the craftsmen district on the left side of the River Arno; and the San Lorenzo quarter, with its daily food market. The Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge) is forbidden to any wheeled traffic so we will admire it from another bridge.

The tour can be transformed into a food tour so you may discover the many local specialities.  A break for a Prosecco or a gelato is included!
