The tour...

  • First of all, we’ll go to Fosdinovo where we’ll walk round this little medieval village and see the Malaspina Castle where Dante may have stayed in 1308 during his exile. There are wonderful views of the coast and the mountains (the Apennines and the Apuans) from the castle which is considered to be the best and most interesting example of military and 14th-century architecture in the area, and the village is a pure medieval architecture in local stone.
  • After that, we’ll go to Sarzana to visit the old town centre (Cathedral of Santa Maria, etc)
  • Finally, we’ll go to Luni for a tour of the old Roman colony (archaeology, amphitheatre and forum), which was built in the second century A.D. and became the principal centre for quarrying and shipping marble from Luni. The archaeological site is considered to be the most interesting in Italy and is the largest north of Roma.

Ideas...

We can complete the trip to the Lunigiana with a tasting of local wines and local snacks in wonderful wine cellars of Luni area.
