The tour...

  • We’ll go straight to the house where he was born, a small house just outside the village of Vinci.
  • We’ll then go into the village where the biggest building is the tower of the Counts Guidi, now partly converted into the Leonardo Museum. There are numerous models on view relating to his inventions and recontructed from his drawings. We’ll see all these machines – pulleys, tanks, a loom, a hang-glider, a bicycle and even a diving suit… and lots of more pf his works of genius.
  • Outside the museum there’s a terrace with panoramic views of Vinci and a very fine statue of his Vitruvian Man which shows the perfect human proportions. The narrow streets in the village are enchanting, well looked after with lots of flowers.

Finding out more…

We can combine this half-day visit with another half-day including, for example, Empoli, to explore this interesting little town, or we could go to San Miniato, with its legendary white truffles, in the province of Pisa and very near Vinci. Alternatively, we could sample some of the area’s fine products such as the wine from the Montalbano hills and the extra-virgin olive oil, with some local snacks.

Useful information...

There is a fee to enter into the Leonardo Museum.
